Seekers, we must know where the old testament began, and where the old ended and where the new begins. The covenant of God with Abraham, and his seed began in the book of Genesis. God sent Moses to deliver the Israelites out of Egypt, God Gave Moses commandment for the people to live by and worship God and how to live together with their neighbors. You can read in Exodus divers laws and ordinances.
Matthew 5 verse 17-19
verse 17: Think no that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill.
verse 18: For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled.
Matthew 27 verse 44-50
verse 50: Jesus when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
verse 51: and behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. and the earth did quake and the rocks rent:
Note: The veil in the temple was rent from the top to bottom, that was the old testament. Once a year the priest went behind the veil to offer sanctify, for the sins of the people. So when Jesus died the veil was taken away, Christ died, shed his blood once and for all to save our souls from sin.
Read exodus 26 verses 31-37 about the veil.
Romans 10 verse 4: For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
The new testament begins with the death of Christ.
Colossians 2 verses 9 -23
verse 14: blotting out the handwriting of ordinance that was against us which was contrary to us and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross:
verse 15: and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly triumphing over them in it.
Christ purchased our salvation by death on the cross blotting out all ordinance against us.
verse 16: Let no man therefore judge you in meat or drink or in respect of and holyday or of the new moon or of the Sabbath days:
Note: Some have made a doctrine in the past and today of meat (pork) what you can eat and what you can't eat. This is not new testament doctrine, but without wisdom go back to the old testament to bring the people into bondage, that to drink coffee is a sin, and cola is a sin.
1 Cor. 10-25 whatsoever is sold in the shambles (market) that eat asking no question for conicience sake:
Matthew 15 verse 11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man: but that which cometh out of the mouth that defileth a man.
Romans 14-17 For the kingdom of God is not in meat and drink but righteousness and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
There is a controversy over the Sabbath. Paul said let no man judge you about the Sabbath, under the law the Jews were to keep the seventh day. God ended his work and rested on the seventh day. The truth is light so lets read what the Apostle Paul said to the Gentiles about the Sabbath.
Hebrews 4 verse 1-9
verse 1: Let us therefore fear lest a promise being left us of entering into his rest any of you should seem to come short of it.
verse 2: for unto us was the Gospel preached as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them not being mixed with faith, in them that heard it.
verse 3: for we which have believed do enter into rest as he said, as I have sworn in my wrath if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
verse 4: for he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise and God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
Psalms 95 verses 9-11
Hebrews 4 verse 5: and in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest
verse 6: Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter there in, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief.
verse 7: again he limiteth a certain day saying in David, Today after so long a time as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
verse 8: For if Jesus had given them rest then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
verse 9: There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
verse 10: For he that is entered into his rest he also hath ceased form his own works, as God did from his.
verse 11: Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Read Mark 15 verse 42:
Jesus was crucified, the preparation that is the day before the Sabbath.
Mark 16 verse 2: and very early in the morning the first day of the week they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun. Note: preparation was Friday the six day Saturday was the seventh day. Sunday the first day of the week. (The truth).
Note: What Paul is saying is that if you believe the Gospel, and have repented of you sins and have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and received the gift of the Holy Ghost that you have entered into his rest. He also hath ceased from his own works as God did from his. When you have obeyed the Gospel, not mans religion but the truth you are now under Grace. The definition of Grace is served favor granted by another or favor granted by a superior to inferior.
Hebrews 12 verse 28: Wherefore we received a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear. Amen
